Dr. A. Miliou

Dr. Miliou’s research interests include all aspects of optical communications and photonic systems. She has been actively engaged in research on simulation of optoelectronic circuits and their applications in optical signal processing. Moreover, her research interests expand to secure communications using chaos and chaotic cryptography.

Dr. Miliou has published over 60 articles in scientific journals and international conferences including several invited contributions and contributed 3 chapters in edited books. Over 200 citations by third researchers have been recorded to her publications. She has participated in several research projects funded by the European Commission, NATO as well as the Greek government. Dr. Miliou has served as Technical Program Committee member in several international conferences. She is a member of the Optical Society of America and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Dr. N. Pleros

Dr. Nikos Pleros joined the faculty of the Department of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in September 2007, where he is currently serving as an Assistant Professor. He obtained the Diploma and the PhD Degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2000 and 2004, respectively.

His research interests include optical interconnect technologies and architectures, photonic integrated circuit technologies, optical technologies for disaggregated data center architectures and high-performance computing, silicon photonics and plasmonics, optical signal processing, optical switching and fiber-wireless technologies and protocols for 5G mobile networks. He has more than 250 archival journal publications and conference presentations including several invited contributions, while his work has been cited >2600 times (, h-index=28, GS source). He has held positions of responsibility at several major conference committees including ECOC, OFC and SPIE Phootonics West. Dr. Pleros has coordinated several FP7 and H2020 European projects including ICT-STREAMS, PlasmoFab, RAMPLAS, PLATON and 5G-PHOS, while he has participated as partner in more than 10 additional projects. He has received the 2003 IEEE Photonics Society Graduate Student Fellowship granted to 12 PhD candidates world-wide in the field of photonics, while he was proud to (co-) supervise three more Fellowship winners (Dr. D. Fitsios in 2014, Dr. C. Vagionas in 2016 and Dr. P. Maniotis in 2017) during their PhD. Dr. Pleros was recently awarded the AUTH Excellence Award for his research project funding ID between 2016-2018. He was also awarded the 15th prize in the Greek Mathematical Olympiad in 1993. He is a member of the IEEE Photonics Society and the IEEE Communications Society.

Dr. K. Vyrsokinos

Konstantinos Vyrsokinos, is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Physics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He received the B.Sc. degree in Physics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and the Ph.D. degree from the ECE Department at the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. He has been among the founding members of WinPHOS research group located at Center for Interdisciplinary Research of AUTH.

His research interests include among others, optical interconnects, optical switching, photonic integration technology, high speed transceivers and photonic sensing. He has authored or co-authored more than 110 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences and his research work is acknowledged by more than 750 external citations with an h-index of 16 according to Scopus. Dr. Vyrsokinos has long experience in National (PHORTRAN, PhosInRAM, PENED2003) and EU funded research project (ICT-MAASTART, ICT-PLATON, ICT- PHOXTROT, ICT-L3MATRIX, ICT-BOOM, ICT-DICONET, IST-APACHE, IST-MUFINS, IST-LASAGNE). Currently he is coordinating H2020 ICT MOICANA research project dealing with the monolithic photonic integration of Quantum Dot InP lasers on SiN platform for the delivery of high efficient photonic transmitters.

Dr. K. Siozios

Dr. Kostas Siozios received his Diploma, Master and Ph.D. Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, in 2001, 2003 and 2009, respectively. Currently, he is Assistant Professor at Department of Physics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

His research interests include Low-Power Hardware Accelerators, Resource Allocation, Machine Learning, Decision-Making Algorithms, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and IoT for Smart-Grid. He has published more than 130 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Also, he has contributed in 5 books of Kluwer and Springer. The last years he works as Project Coordinator, Technical Manager or Principal Investigator in numerous research projects funded from the European Commission (EC), European Space Agency (ESA), as well as the Greek Government and Industry.

Dr. L. Georgiadis

Leonidas Georgiadis (M'86, SM'95) received the Diploma degree in electrical engineering from Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1979, and his M.S. and Ph.D degrees both in electrical engineering from the University of Connecticut, in 1981 and 1986 respectively. From 1981 to 1983 he has been with the Greek army. From 1986 to 1987 he was Research Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.

In 1987 he joined IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights as a Research Staff Member. Since October 1995, he has been with the Telecommunications Department of Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece. His research interests are in wireless communications, high speed networks, energy efficient communications, distributed systems, congestion control, mobile communications, scheduling, information theory and coding, modeling and performance analysis. Dr. Georgiadis is a Senior Member of IEEE Communications Society. In 1992 he received the IBM Outstanding Innovation Award for his work on Goal-Oriented Workload Management for Multi-class systems.

Dr. D. Tsiokos

Dr Tsiokos obtained his Bachelor (BEng) degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Southampton, UK in 2001, and his Masters (MSc) degree in Optics & Photonics from Imperial College London, UK in 2002. In 2007 he completed his PhD studies at the National Technical University of Athens.

In 2009, Dr Tsiokos was a visiting researcher at the, School of Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Miwaukee, USA, while he also joined the Centre for Research and Technology (CERTH) and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece holding positions of Senior Researcher and R&D Program Manager. Since 2014 Dr Tsiokos is a Principal Researcher at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Innovation of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki focusing his research interests on photonic systems, photonic integrated circuits and plasmonics for biosensing and optical interconnects applications. Dr Tsiokos has authored and co-authored more than 70 publications in peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings while he is the author and co-author of four book chapters and one patent.

Dr. Th. Alexoudi

During her PhD studies, Dr. Alexoudi received the Excellence Grant for PhD students by Research Committee of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2014). for PhD students by Research Committee of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2014). In December 2015 she was appointed a Marie-Curie Fellowship in Phoenix BV in the Netherlands. Dr. Alexoudi is currently working on optical RAM architectures and optical interconnects circuits for future high-performance systems.

Dr. G. Kalfas

George Kalfas received his Diploma and M.Sc. degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2005 and 2010, respectively, both in computer science. From November 2006 up to 2012, he has been with the Informatics and Telematics Institute, Helenic Center for Research and Technology, as a Research Assistant where he worked in numerous European and Greek research projects.

Since the end of 2012 he is working as a research associate in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Currently he is secondeed in iQuadrat, Barcelona, as part of Marie Curie IAPP FP7 project Comander. Dr. A. Mesodiakaki

Dr. Agapi Mesodiakaki obtained her M.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at National Technical University of Athens in 2011. In the same year, she was granted a Marie-Curie Early-Stage-Researcher fellowship, while pursuing a Ph.D. at the Signal Theory and Communications Department of Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain, which she obtained with honors in 2015. During the following two years, she worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Karlstad University in Sweden.

Since January 2018, Agapi has been working as a post-doctoral researcher in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She has authored more than 25 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences (h-index=10). Her main research interests include energy-efficient radio resource management, millimeter wave, 5G, converged fiber-wireless networks and optimization theory.

Dr. Ch. Vagionas

Chris Vagionas is an Electrical and Computer Engineer (2008). He obtained his M.Sc. in Networks, Communication and Systems Architecture at the Department of Informatics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2011. His postgraduate thesis concerned the study and simulation of light propagation in semiconductor optical amplifiers (S.O.A.).

Dr. D. Ketzaki

Dimitra Ketzaki received her Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Greece in 2009. In 2015, she received her PhD degree on the «Development of computational techniques for the analysis and design of microwave and photonic structures incorporating resonant elements and formations with artificial electric and magnetic properties» from the same department.

During her PhD studies Dr. Ketzaki was awarded with the Excellence Grant for PhD students by Research Committee of AUTH. In 2015, she received an individual Postdoctoral fellowship from the Research Committee of AUTH in the topic of «Numerical simulation and analysis of plasmonic components». Since 2016, Dr. Ketzaki works as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Photonic Systems and Networks (PhosNet) research group in the area of plasmonics and photonics design and computational analysis participating in EU-Horizon 2020 research programs. Her research interests include the numerical electromagnetic analysis and design of photonic and plasmonic structures leading so far to several publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences and a patent application as co-inventor (No. 20170100088).

Dr. A. Totović

Dr. Angelina Totović was born in 1988 in Kragujevac, Serbia. She received her BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering (Nanoelectronics and Photonics), at the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, Serbia, in 2011, 2013 and 2018, respectively. From 2012 to 2018 she was a Teaching and Research Assistant at the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade. She joined WinPhos group at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2018.

During the PhD studies, in 2016, she was awarded the Scholarship by Coimbra Group Universities through the Programme for Young Researchers from European Neighbouring Countries, through which she was a Visiting Researcher at the Photonics and Electromagnetics Group of the Department of Information Engineering at the University of Padova, Italy. In 2017 she was awarded the Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by SPIE Society. Dr. Totović has been working on developing and implementing stable, robust and memory/time efficient algorithms for modeling and simulation of semiconductor optical amplifiers on device level, which were further transferred to the system level analysis. She was engaged in research on RSOA-based fiber cavity lasers. Her current research interests include neuromorphic photonics and exploitation of SOAs for colorless and energy-efficient optical access networks. She has authored/coauthored one chapter and more than 15 research papers. She received several scientific awards for her work.

Dr. G. Dabos

Dr. George Dabos has completed his PhD on “Integrated Photonic and Plasmonic Circuits for Optical Interconnect Applications” in the Dept. of Informatics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in 2018. In 2014, he received a Marie Currie fellowship contributing to the development of industry driven PDA tools for state-of-the-art PIC modules at Phoenix BV (Synopsys) one of the leading PIC design software companies.

Since 2019, Dr.Dabos works as a Postdoctoral researcher at WinPhos research group in the field of Photonic Integrated Circuits and Neuromorphic Computing. Team worker, self-motivated with strong sense of application-driven research, he participated in a series of EU funded research projects within the FP7 & H2020 horizon frameworks leading technical work packages associated with the development of complex PICs and advanced optical systems. He has authored and co-authored scientific articles published in IEEE, OSA, Nature, Elsevier as well as SPIE journals and conferences. Dr. Dabos has also co-invented a patent for highly sensitive plasmo-photonic biosensors using structures designed in his PhD. Being always willing to develop new skills and initiate new collaborations his research interests focus on photonic integrated circuits towards new disruptive technologies for datacom and neuromorphic computing applications.

Mr M. Moralis-Pegios

Miltiadis Moralis-Pegios received the B.Sc. degree and the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, in 2011 and 2013, respectively. Mr N. Terzenidis

Nikos Terzenidis obtained his BSC degree on March 2015, from the School of Informatics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and his Master’s degree in “Networks, Communication and Systems Architecture” on March 2017. Since 2016 he is pursuing his PhD degree in Optical communications. His undergraduate thesis concerned the design and development of an FPGA-based packet switch using bloom filter encoded headers.

His Master’s thesis concerned the experimental demonstration of a reconfigurable optical switching device exploiting a 4x4 silicon photonics switching matrix, along with an FPGA-based programmable control-plane. Since March 2015 he works as a research associate at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research & Innovation (CIRI) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH.) and at the Information Technologies Institute (ITI) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). He has been involved on several tasks of the EU-funded projects PhoxTroT, L3MATRIX, ICT-STREAMS and dRedBox while his main research interests include optical switching architectures, Data Center disaggregation, digital design and photonic technology.

Mr G. Mourgias

Thanasis Manolis has obtained his BSc degree from the Department of Informatics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2016. Mr D. Chatzitheocharis

Mr E. Ruggeri

Eugenio Ruggeri received both his Bachelor Degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering and his Master Degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Università di Bologna (Italy), respectively in 2014 and 2017. His Bachelor thesis concerned the training of a computer vision classifier and its implementation in a c++ software for real time car recognition.

His Master Degree thesis focused on the development of a synthesis technique of the driving sequences of linear time-modulated arrays through a Genetic Algorithm. After his Master Degree, he worked at Vodafone for Alten Italy until joining the Marie-Curie ITN 5G STEP-FWD program as a PhD student at Phos Lab.

Dr. G. T. Kanellos

Dr George T. Kanellos is currently a Lecturer in High Performance Networks Group at the University of Bristol. He received his BE and Ph.D. from the Photonics Communications Research Laboratory (PCRL), National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2002 and 2008 respectively. His PhD research focused on routing and switching technologies based on III-V and PLC photonic integrated devices. Dr. Kanellos joined Win.Phos in 2009 and conducted research on optical interconnects and optical RAM memories until he left in 2017 for joining University of Bristol.
