Who we are
The "Wireless and Photonic Systems and Networks" (WinPhoS) research group was established in 2016 at AUTH’s Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Innovation (C.I.R.I.) as an inter-disciplinary collaborative research environment between the Departments of Physics, Informatics and Electrical and Computer Engineering at AUTH, with the main goal to carry out interdisciplinary research in the fields of systems, communications and networks. WinPhoS span out of the amalgamation of the:
- Photonics Systems and Networks (Phos-Net) Research Group of the Department of Informatics, led by Prof. Pleros and Prof. Miliou
- the research groups of Prof. Vyrsokinos on optics and Prof. Siozios on embedded systems from the Department of Physics
The Group is equipped with world-class laboratories, including state of the art high-speed optical interconnect and 5G mmWave testbeds and Photonic Integrated Circuit experimental characterization platforms. It has been at the forefront of world research and development in the fields of:
- Applications of integrated photonics and plasmonics
- Optical interconnects for DataCenters and High-Performance Computing
- Optics for computing, optical Random Access Memories and optical cache memories
- Neuromorphic Photonics
- Optical switching and signal processing applications
- 5G mmWave fiber-wireless systems and networks
- Biophotonics
WinPhoS has a track-record in European research project participation, with its team members having participated in more than 30 FP7 and Horizon EU research projects during the last 15 years, often acting also as the project coordinators. It has a world-wide network of collaborators from leading research institutions and industry from Greece, Europe, USA, and Japan.
